Why Choose a Funeral Plan?
What is a Funeral Plan?A funeral plan is a way of paying up front for your funeral - a pre-paid funeral plan is guaranteed to cover the cost of the funeral services included in your plan, no matter how much prices rise or how long you live.
Your plan provider will pay the funeral director directly, which means your family will not have to worry about sorting your finances or doing administrative tasks, at an already emotional time.
What Does a Funeral Plan Cover?A funeral plan will typically cover the essentials of a funeral, such as the cost of a coffin, care and transport of the body to a funeral director and a hearse.
There are many other considerations when it comes to choosing a funeral plan, as different companies and plans may cover different things as standard - but don’t worry, we are here to take the hard part out of comparing funeral plans.
We have analysed the pre-paid funeral market and work with a range of chosen Trusted Providers including Dignity, Golden Leaves and Pure Cremation. We’ve carefully selected providers which have an established reputation for value, service and a Trust Fund to keep your money secure. Unlike most pre paid funeral plan comparison companies, we don’t just work with one provider so you can be sure you are getting the best deal for you, tailored to your wishes and budget.
Benefits of a Funeral Plan
It Freezes the CostThe main benefit of a pre-paid funeral plan is that you can effectively freeze the cost at today’s prices, meaning that you will be exempt from price increases in the future.
SunLife’s Cost of Dying 2017 report found that the cost of a basic funeral has risen for the 14th year in a row, with an increase of 4.7% just this year alone, and between 2004 and 2017, funeral costs have increased by an incredible 116%. It’s really not too early to start thinking about your funeral - the sooner you decide on a funeral plan, the more cost-effective it is, giving your family peace of mind that the funeral is covered when the time comes.
Protect Loved OnesA pre-paid funeral plan is one of the most effective and affordable methods to protect your family and loved ones against the burden of rising funeral costs. There has been a rise in ‘funeral poverty’ which has increased by 50% in just three years.
Where no financial provision had been made in advance, one in nine people left their loved ones with a shortfall on their funeral costs, with the average being £3,102 per family. More than a quarter had to borrow money to cover this shortfall, and more worryingly, one in ten were forced to sell belongings to cover the cost.*
This is just a few pieces of data - we’ve put together the full facts on the rising cost of a funeral which really shows how important it is to act now in order to beat these fast-rising costs and protect your family.
Peace of MindIt’s already an upsetting and stressful time, and a pre paid funeral plan can really take the pressure off your loved ones - your family won't have to get involved with any of the finances or administration, as your plan provider will pay the funeral director directly.
By setting up a pre-paid funeral plan, you can also plan the details in advance and spare your loved ones the distress of having to make difficult decisions as to what your particular preferences for your funeral might be. SunLife’s 2017 Cost of Dying report found that a massive 21% of people did not know a single preference for their family members wishes for the funeral and only 1% knew exactly what their family member wanted. By planning this in advance with a funeral plan, your family will be safe in the knowledge that the funeral will be exactly how you wanted.
Personalised to YouOur recommended plan providers offer a comprehensive range of options to suit all tastes and budgets. Each can be tailored to suit particular preferences…from the big things – like whether you want to be cremated or buried – to the smaller things, like your choice of music and flowers. All can be personalised; meaning they can be adapted to include any specific features or elements particular to you, but which perhaps aren’t included as standard. Additional costs may apply for some of these services, towards which a contribution can very often be made in the plan or the cost can be met at the time.
It’s Affordable & FlexibleIf you don’t wish to pay for your plan in full straight away, we also offer a range of monthly payment terms covering 12, 24, 36, 60, 120 and 180 months. Plus, many plan providers offer an ‘Either/Or’ option at a small additional premium – allowing a single plan to be ‘shared’ between 2 people, meaning the benefit of the plan can be utilised at either the first death or at the second.
